As Denver, Colorado based photographers and artists, each member of KokoWorld Photo is committed to positively affecting the visual experience. Through our photography, we deliver palettes of colors, textures, and images of life that stir a mood or tell a story. Our photgraphs encompass the areas of fine art, commercial installations and assignments, stock, advertising and travel.
KoKoWorld Photo images have progressively captured the imagination and fascination of art buyers worldwide. Janet Koelling and Kerry Koepping have professionally created photos for 25 years using large and medium format film and evolving into digital. Throughout our tenure, selections have been published in books, catalogues, internet, and magazines throughout the world. We have also worked as event photographers for major sporting events and corporate occasions.
I love that photography is light. It is exhilarating to engage a scene and watch as the light evolves throughout the day. To be able capture the exhilarating first breath of light to the days dramatic end is a very sensory experience. For me, each photograph is a journey in perception, an exploration in seeing the world that surrounds us. When photographing, I tune in to the natural rhythms and pulse of the subject at hand and try to communicate that sense back to the person seeing a final image. I also enjoy the fact that when shooting scenics or landscapes you have little or no control over weather, light or geography. So to get that amazing shot a photographer must study the subject/landscape and place himself in the most unique position as to arrange all the variables in what will become an interesting composition. And sometimes you get lucky. There are those serendipitous moments when all the elements of a great image fall into place.
In creating images in photography, I hope to communicate a feeling of awe and a sense of mystery about a moment in time and space. Many such moments were noticed by others, but taken for granted. Or, maybe an onlooker was moved but had the wrong time or equipment to capture the perception that they felt. Perhaps my photo expression will evoke the deep feeling or exquisite mystery for our universe that I felt in capturing the moment.
It begins with a perception. I ask myself, “Is this an experience of majesty, power, wonder, or transformation?” Then I nurture a photo vision of the moment. My task is more than a matter of capturing the image. It is the challenge of communicating the perception between my soul and the spirit of the beholder.
Words cannot explain the art of photo vision. What eyesight takes for granted, photo vision turns to magic. What science tries to explains with data, masterful photography clarifies with essence. What rationality defines, photography unravels.
Masterful photography transforms realism into an artistic interpretation. It leaves questions to the beholder. Questions of, “How or when did this moment occur?” “Why didn’t I see it as beautifully as this shows it?” “What is beyond?”
While photography is intensely human, it is my intent in each photo to transform the eye to the divine. It is my desire that my soul, my very spirit will touch your spirit through my expression of photography. By way of my photo expression, may you breathe more deeply, feel more complete, savor life in a new way.
